I am Dr. Michele Downie and I am running for School Board for the Wallingford-Swarthmore School District. I have been a resident of Nether Providence for 15 years and I am a strong proponent of public education.

Last May, I was appointed to fill a vacancy on the School Board when a School Director moved out of the school district. I feel honored to have been selected to complete the remainder of his term and I am running to remain on the Board to serve a full 4-year term. I earned my doctorate in Psychology from Virginia Commonwealth University. I have worked as a psychologist at the University of Pennsylvania for nearly 20 years conducting therapy, supervising advanced clinicians-in-training, and coordinating the Group Program. My entire career has been shaped by the world of education.

My husband and I have two wonderful boys - a 5th grader at Nether Providence Elementary School and a freshman at Strath Haven High School. We are extremely pleased that our sons have had the privilege of attending school in our highly respected school district. I am also Chair of the Board of La Puerta Abierta, a nonprofit organization that provides pro bono trauma-informed therapy for immigrants, and Iā€™m involved with the Delaware County Coalition for Prison Reform. I enjoy spending time with my three guys; participating in events like the Turkey Trot, the Pajama Run, and the MS Muckfest; and baking for bake sales and fundraisers (and just for fun).

If elected, I intend to use my lens as a psychologist to keep mental wellness in the dialogue and to support policies that fully promote the social, emotional, educational, and vocational development of our students.

Thank you, and I hope to see you at the polls.
