My name is Mary Jo Witkowski-Smith and I am running for Wallingford Swarthmore School board in Region 2. I am a recently retired career educator with 41 years of experience in education, including 5 years as an administrator in our home district of Wallingford-Swarthmore. I have first-hand experience with academic excellence, equitable education, district finances and school operations. I know how school boards can have a positive impact.

I am also an extremely proud parent of two graduates of Nether Providence Elementary, and Strath Haven middle and high school. My children’s experiences throughout their school careers have enabled them to be high achieving adults and responsible members of their communities. I want this for all children attending our schools.

Lastly, I am a retiree on a fixed income and feel the impact of our high taxes. I am willing to pay my fair share to enable Wallingford-Swarthmore students to perform at the highest levels. However, I want to ensure that the Wallingford- Swarthmore School District is fiscally sound and all of our money is being used wisely.

As a Wallingford-Swarthmore school board director, it is my duty to provide responsible school governance. If re-elected, I will carry forth that mission.
